Trying to put the flop – in the US, at least – of The Lone Ranger behind him, Johnny Depp is still willing to collaborate with people he’s worked alongside before. The actor is now negotiating for the lead role in Mortdecai, which has been written and will be directed by Secret Window’s David Koepp{
The script, which was originated by Eric Aronson and re-written by Koepp, is based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s book The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.
Depp will take the lead as Charles Mortdecai, a suave art dealer and occasional rogue who must recover a stolen painting rumoured to contain the code that will crack open a lost bank account stuffed full of Nazi gold. His mission will bring him into contact (and conflict) with angry Russians, MI5, an international terrorist and his beautiful wife. We’re just hoping the painting isn’t the Fallen Madonna With The Big Boobies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp wants to fit Mortdecai in before he heads out to sea for the fifth Pirates film. He’s currently at work on Wally Pfister’s Transcendence and is also on to play the Wolf in Rob Marshall’s cinematic adaptation of Into The Woods.
