He’s on our screens this week as corrupt DEA agent Dennis in Oliver Stone’s **Savages, but John Travolta is already looking ahead to other possible projects. He’s now considering starring in both the remake of John Woo’s iconic action madness **The Killer and the lead in a biopic of legendary American football coach Vince Lombardi.
Chatting at the press conference held for Savages at the Zurich Film Festival, Travolta played things close to his chest as regards the Woo reboot (Re-Woot?), which the director has been trying to get off the ground for a while now.
John H Lee is in the frame to direct the new version, which would re-tell the same basic story of a hit man (Chow Yun-Fat in the original) taking one last job to scrounge up the cash to help a singer he unintentionally blinded.
Though Jung Woo-Sung had been attached to the movie, there’s no word on whether that’s the case. And Travolta does have a good relationship with Woo after working with him on Broken Arrow and Face/Off. We’ll see if this one works out.
As for the Lombardi film, Travolta has a personal connection to the story, as the famous football boss coached his father, Salvatore Travolta, before he turned professional. Lombardi became most famous for guiding the Green Bay Packers to three straight league championships and two Super Bowls in the 1960s. He’s so well regarded by the sport that the Super Bowl trophy is named after him.
Travolta will next be seen in Killing Season opposite Robert De Niro. And he’s waiting to see if the script for true-life mob tale Gotti: In The shadow Of My Father ever gets to a point where it can actually be put into production.
