He's the man who brought us The Guard and Calvary and will this year release his latest, War On Everyone. So we're naturally interested to see what John Michael McDonagh will do next, and it turns out he's working on a novel adaptation.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, he's busy pawing through Percival Everett's murder mystery novel Assumption, which is set in New Mexico and chronicles a black deputy sheriff investigating a number of killings. There's no word on when he might actually start working on the film itself, but then he still has to handle getting War On Everyone out into the world, including a premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next month.

War is also set in New Mexico – taking him away from Ireland for the first time – and is described as a dark action comedy that finds Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena as corrupt cops who aim to blackmail every criminal they meet. Apparently McDonagh was so enamored of New Mexico's setting that he looked for material that would allow him to return. What, no Breaking Bad: The Movie?
