While we're still not sure the world is ready for pandemic-themed movies, that isn't stopping director Jon Keeyes, who has already wrapped shooting on The Survivalist, which has John Malkovich and Jonathan Rhys Meyers starring.
With Matthew Rogers on script duty, the thriller takes place a year and a half after the fall of civilization from a virus outbreak. A former FBI agent (Meyers) is forced to protect a young woman, who is immune to the disease, from a dangerous gang hunting her led by a psychopath who believes he’s going to use her to save the world (Malkovich).
So... yes, it remains to be seen if audiences will want to be reminded of the drastic state of the world even as there is the first twinkling of hope for an end to all this.
