John Goodman Gets Extremely Loud

After spending more time on the small screen than the big one recently as part of the first series of HBO’s Treme, John Goodman is joining the cast of Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Adapted by Eric Roth from Jonathan Safran Foer’s acclaimed novel, Extremely Loud already boasts Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and young quiz show winner Thomas Horn in the tale of Oskar (Horn), a precocious nine-year-old whose father dies in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Unsure how to process the loss, Oskar goes on a journey across New York looking for any information he can find about a key that his dad left behind hidden in a vase. As he searches, he meets various people dealing with the loss of loved ones who help him come to terms with his grief.

Goodman has signed on to play a doorman in the lad’s apartment building, who helps out with a particularly tricky part of Oskar’s crusade – exhuming his father’s coffin.

And if you’re looking to see more of Goodman’s work, he’s also worked on Kevin Smith’s Red State, putting in a performance that the writer/director has been raving about. We should see that one some time this year.
