A political satire

John Cusack Is Brand Hauser

John Cusack’s back in the assassin’s game. While Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens isn’t actually a sequel to Grosse Pointe Blank, it sounds like a similar blend of dark comedy and Cusack with a gun.

But this time it also has a political edge, which finds Cusack’s hired killer paid to off a Middle Eastern oil minister. He poses as a trade show producer, whose latest bash will include a wedding between a local pop star and a politician. Hilary Duff, Marisa Tomei and Joan Cusack are also starring.

The film also marks a return to co-writing a script for Cusack – he’s worked on the Brand screenplay with Bulworth co-writer Jeremy Pikser and legendary Et Tu, Babe novelist Mark Leyner.

Josh Seftel is behind the camera for the film, which shoots in Bulgaria this month.
