A new action thriller that will star Jackie Chan has been bubbling away in development, with Need For Speed's Scott Waugh attached to direct. The movie, currently working titled Project X, now boasts John Cena as Chan's co-star.

Sylvester Stallone had been aboard to pair with Chan when the film was called Ex-Baghdad last year. The plot remains the same, though – Chan is playing a Chinese private security contractor called into extract oil workers from a China-run oil refinery in the Middle East when it's attacked. But that's a smokescreen for an oil heist, and Chan's character needs the help of an American former Marine (Cena) to stop the thieves.

Arash Amel wrote the script, and the working title gives a blend of good feelings (we have happy memories of watching Chan's Project A movies back in the 1980s) and bad (there are also the horrid memories of watching dreadful comedy Project X).

Cena has Transformers spin-off Bumblebee due on 26 December and is voicing a character in The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle, out next April.
