John C. Reilly Is Wreck-It Ralph

You might remember that, back in April, Disney did some schedule shuffling, pushing Pixar’s latest sequel (well, the Monsters, Inc prequel Monsters University) from next year back to 2013 and slotting video game ‘toon Reboot Ralph in its place. Now the film has a new title – Wreck-It Ralph, and a voice cast that includes John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer and Sarah Silverman.

Directed by Simpsons/Futurama veteran Rich Moore, Ralph finds Reilly as the titular character, a villain in a classic arcade game that sees him going up against all-round hero Fix-It Felix (McBrayer). But Ralph dreams of more from life than just plotting evil plans and having his wishes thwarted by Felix – he wants to be a hero. So when a modern new shoot-'em-up game arrives with tough nut Sergeant Calhoun (Lynch), Ralph decides to make a break for it, heading out with the aim of becoming a good guy and winning a medal. Until, that is, he makes a terrible mistake and unleashes a deadly enemy with the power to destroy all the games. He’ll need some help from racing game “glitch” Vanellope von Schweetz (Silverman) to make things right and prove he can be more than he's programmed to be...

“I love the idea of a very simple 8-bit video game character struggling with the complex question: ‘isn't there more to life than the role I've been assigned?’” says Moore in a statement. “In his quest for the answer, we journey with our hero through three visually distinct video-game worlds. It's unlike anything anyone's seen before.”

There’s no definite word on when we’ll see the movie, but expect it not long after the November 12 US release next year.
