We've been hearing for a while about how filmmaker Steve McQueen has evolved a planned TV series into an anthology comprising several films under the umbrella title Small Axe. With some of the films now scheduled to open the New York Film Festival at the end of September, we now have a new first look at one of those titles, Red White And Blue, which stars John Boyega.

In his episode, written by McQueen and Courttia Newland, Boyega plats Leroy Logan, a real-life Metropolitan Police officer who wanted to change the force from within after he saw his father assaulted by two policemen. Logan was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2001 for his role in developing anti-racist policies for the police. He retired as a superintendent in 2013 after 30 years of service.

Red, White And Blue forms part of the Small Axe anthology alongside Lover's Rock, Mangrove, Alex Wheatle and Education. The films will arrive on the BBC in the UK and via Amazon in the States, with no specific date beyond later this year.
