John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey were introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and spent a lot of time running around together. Some viewers were disappointed when The Last Jedi saw them mostly separate until the end, despite that being the plan so they can be challenged. Now, according to Boyega, the pair will be back together for the next movie.
"I haven’t read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, 'Oh my gosh, I just heard from JJ, and we’re back together,'" the actor said at AwesomeCon at the weekend. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again."
And that's not all he said, as he also reiterated something he's mentioned in the past – that the next instalment will see the Resistance and the First Order truly throw down. "I think it’s going to be all-out war in this final chapter, so we need to be prepared."
With Abrams back directing, having co-written the script with Chris Terrio, Star Wars Episode IX is due to start filming this year, with its release already set for 20 December, 2019.
