You may recall that we spoke to director John Boorman in Cannes back in May. He was there to promote his daughter’s documentary Me & Me Dad, but even more excitingly, he revealed that he’d finished a script for a sequel to his Blitz-set 1987 comedy drama Hope And Glory. Well, now the film has an official title – Queen And Country – and Caleb Landry Jones is in talks to star.
While Hope chronicled a Boorman substitute in his misadventures through war-wounded, rubble-strewn London, the follow-up will find an older character conscripted into the military just in time for the tail end of the Korean War.
The director is now in the process of locking down the financing and looks set to shoot in London, though an exact start date has yet to be set.
But Landry Jones definitely seems to have caught Boorman’s eye, as he’s also attached to star in another of the filmmaker's gestating projects, Broken Dream. From the sounds of it, Queen And Country will go before cameras first. The actor was last seen in Contraband and has both Antiviral and Neil Jordan’s Byzantium set for release. Presumably he'll soon be back in **X-Men: Days Of Future Past **as well, although that has yet to be confirmed. **Byzantium **premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and you can find all of **Empire'**s Toronto coverage, provided by Festival Hound Damon Wise over at the blog.
