Given that he wrote, directed and starred in The Gift last year, about a man who slowly and scarily tries to ingratiate himself with a couple, Joel Edgerton should have all the tools he needs to take the lead in a stalker thriller. Good thing, as he's now joined a new movie called It Comes At Night.
Fortunately not a night vision sex tape featuring Pennywise from the Stephen King tale, this one hails from writer/director Trey Edward Shults who has been enjoying festival success with his first feature, Krisha, based on his own short film.
It Comes At Night will see Edgerton as a husband and father who will stop at nothing to protect his family from a strange, malevolent presence that seems to be hovering right outside their home.
Production company A24 picked up the film as part of a two-title deal with Krisha (which won the Special Jury and Audience awards at SXSW), and Schults has also secured Animal Kingdom producer David Kaplan to work on the movie. There's no word on when the new project might kick off shooting just yet. Edgerton was last seen in Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special and is back with the director for Loving, due here on February 3 next year.
