Director David R Ellis has found some willing victims to take a dip alongside a group of hungry sharks in his new splatter fest Shark Night 3D,with Avatar’s Joel David Moore prime among the cast.

He’ll be joined by Friday Night Lights’ Sinqua Walls, who’s playing a college football star heading on holiday with the girl he wants to marry (Alyssa Diaz). Then there’s Chris Carmack, who used to date the film’s yet-to-be-cast female lead, a woman who has bad memories of the water after getting scarred in a boating accident.

Moore, meanwhile, will serve as the comic relief (not exactly a stretch for the man), a socially inept guy who thinks he’s a young Brad Pitt.

Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes’ script sees the group staying with two for the weekend at a lake house on the Louisiana Gulf. They soon discover that the nearby water is full of greedy sharks (a shock, since the creatures aren’t normally found in freshwater lakes), unleashed as part of a plan by crazed locals. Hmm, anyone else having pleasant flashbacks to Lake Placid right about now?

Ellis is planning to get the madness started next month in Louisiana.
