Though he’ll make his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther has his own film on Disney and Marvel’s sprawling schedule set for 2018. It now looks like Joe Robert Cole will be the man to write the script for the stand-alone adventure.

Cole, who has writing and directing experience via 2011’s Amber Lake, is part of the comic book film studio’s in-house writing program, which also gave Guardians Of The Galaxy/Captain Marvel’s Nicole Perlman her entry into the MCU. According to The Wrap, Cole had been attempting to crack the script for Inhumans, but isn’t attached to the film at this point. He is, however, in advanced negotiations to bring Black Panther’s story to life.

Exactly what the film will be is naturally still a mystery and somewhat standard for Kevin Feige’s crew. We’d imagine there will be some exploration of T’Challa, the man who inherits the Panther mantle as an unexpected part of his royal lineage, and an exploration of his home of Wakanda, the nation whose mines provide Vibranium, the material from which Captain America's shield is made.

So far, Marvel has only made tentative attempts to secure a director, reaching out to Selma’s Ava DuVernay, who declined to take on the job, citing the compromises that comes with working within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And there has been chatter about Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gray considering the idea, but the recent news about him entering exclusive talks to tackle **Fast And Furious 8 would seem to put any rumours to rest. For now, it appears the studio is looking to get the script in a solid state before looking for people who can call the shots.

**Black Panther **will be out in the UK on July 6, 2018. **Captain America: Civil War **arrives on April 29 next year.
