It’s only a matter of weeks until Doctor Who, the BBC’s 55 year-old sci-fi series, gets one of its boldest ever regenerations when Jodie Whittaker becomes the first female (by human definitions of gender) take on the titular Time Lord. With Series 11 of the revived run set to debut early in October, a new trailer has arrived to give our best glimpse yet at the new Doctor, new tone, new companions, and new… well, everything.

All evidence points at Chris Chibnall’s era as showrunner being a vibrant and optimistic take on the show, with clean, bright visuals and a propulsive new lead. Highlights of this trailer include the Doctor saying, “let’s get a shift on”, and one of the new companions drop-kicking what looks a bit like an alien head. This time the extra-terrestrial adventurer is joined by three friends in the TARDIS – Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien, Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair, and Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan.

The new run of the show kicks off on BBC One on Sunday 7 October – moving from its former Saturday teatime slot – and is set to consist of 10 standalone episodes, with no two-part stories. There will also be an additional Christmas episode to air at, erm, Christmas. The two week(ish) countdown begins now.
