Jessica Chastain scored an Oscar nomination playing a steel-spined CIA operative looking to hunt down Osama Bin Laden in Zero Dark Thirty, and tangled with horror in Mama. She’ll need that tough attitude to survive Mama producer Guillermo del Toro’s haunted house, because Chastain is now part of the cast for **Crimson Peak.
Del Toro is building quite the cast for the film, which he’s planned as an homage to the likes of** The Haunting** and Jack Clayton’s The Innocents. “I’ve always tried to make big-sized horror movies like the ones I grew up watching,” the writer/director told Deadline when Peak was first announced. “I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback.”
Chastain will join Emma Stone, Charlie Hunnam and Benedict Cumberbatch, who was recruited just last week to the joy of his fan base.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, one element of the film will be the story of a woman who discovers that her husband may not be who he claims, but there are no details on which of those cast so far will play which character or how they’ll interact. Guillermo wrote the script with regular partner Matthew Robbins and has recently polished it alongside Lucinda Coxon. He’ll kick off shooting next February.
As for Chastain, she’ll appear in The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby His and Hers alongside James McAvoy, and is shooting Miss Julie with** Colin Farrell**. The ever-busy del Toro is putting the finishing touches on Pacific Rim, due this summer.
