Who'd have thunk it? Jeff Bridges, brilliantly understated actor and member of the Bridges dynasty, has gone and done a Will Smith. Having just released his debut album - Be Home Soon - Jeff's gone and placed himself in the company of, er, Cher. Not exactly though, because unlike most actor/musicians plugging their oeuvre, Bridges' album does not contain the title title track to his new movie.

No, sir, this is a bona fide record with proper musicians, with a folky/R&B sound and no less than David Crosby and **Steely Dan's Michael McDonald **on hand to assist Jeff with singing duty. But the actor is no stranger to music. He's played with brother Beau in their band for years (the originally entitled The Bridges), and the pair have even co-starred as jobbing musicians in 1989's The Fabulous Baker Boys, with Michelle Pfeiffer as a toothsome singer. Jeff's album is out in the US on Ramp Records - the label owned by Jeff, Michael McDonald and Chris Pelonis.
