Kathryn Bigelow is even now calling the shots on her untitled drama set among the riots in Detroit in 1967. Yet she's still adding actors, with Straight Outta Compton's Jason Mitchell now part of the cast.

With Mark Boal once again on writing duties, the film will unspool its story against the backdrop of destructive action that spread across the city, the result of pent-up rage at racism and police raids. Mitchell's role, like most of his co-stars (including Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, Ben O'Toole, Kaitlyn Dever, John Boyega and Hannah Murray), is a mystery at this point. One person we do know about is Anthony Mackie, on as a overturning Vietnam veteran who has a prominent role in the story.

Despite not currently having a studio home, Bigelow is aiming to have this one ready for release next year, timed to the 50th anniversary of the riots. Mitchell will next show up in Kong: Skull Island, which stomps to our shores on March 10 next year.
