With Diane Lane and Liam Neeson taking the big lead roles in the new Watergate drama, Writer/director Peter Landesman is filling out the rest of the cast, adding Jason Bateman to Felt{ =nofollow}.

The new drama, set in the 1970s, explores the experiences of special agent Mark Felt, the man who eventually revealed himself to be the mysterious source who helped Washington Post reports Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward (the reporters chronicled in 1976’s All The President’s Men) investigate and eventually expose the dodgy goings on, with what they dug up eventually leading to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Neeson is on to play Felt, with Lane as his wife Audrey. And now we know that Bateman will be FBI Agent Charlie Bates, who works closely with Felt and, when he learns that his boss is leaking classified information, must decide whether to protect him or report him.

With Ridley Scott and Tom Hanks among the producers, Landesman is looking to start shooting in March next year. Bateman will be heard as one of the leads in Disney’s Zootropolis, which is out on March 25. And he took his latest directorial effort, The Family Fang, to the Toronto Film Festival this year, but that one doesn’t have a release date yet.
