While Krysten Ritter's hard-living and hard-punching private eye will be back on our screens as part of The Defenders this August, Jessica Jones is also busy shooting her second season, and Janet McTeer has joined the cast.
Marvel offered no details about what McTeer will be playing, save that she'll have a huge impact on Jessica's life. "We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season," enthuses series creator and executive producer Melissa Rosenberg. "Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her."
Not much is known about where Jessica's story will go in Season 2, though the fallout from her encounter with David Tennant's Kilgrave will continue to reverberate. We'd expect to see the likes of Rachael Taylor back as Trish and Eka Darville once again playing Malcolm.
"We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast," says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb. "Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal." Neither Marvel nor Netflix have announced a date for the new season, but given the shooting schedule and the upcoming Defenders (18 August), next year seems most likely.
