The buddy cop genre seems to be cruising back in force. Kevin Smith’s latest – Cop Out – tackles bickering plods, and now it looks like Jamie Foxx and Ashton Kutcher will be an unlikely team for Streets On Fire.

Like** Cop Out** (back when it was called A Couple Of Dicks), Fire is a veteran of the Black List, the scripts that Hollywood types loved but didn’t get produced, in this case in 2009. Written by Justin Britt-Gibson, it follows a by-the-book Chicago cop (Foxx) who struggles to keep his anger issues under control when he teams up with a cocky, arrogant partner (Kutcher, go figure) and they instantly hate each other.

But then they’re forced to work together to take down a gang of killers who turn out to be corrupt fellow walkers of the Thin Blue Line.

Pajiba reports that Kutcher is producing the film via his own company but that there’s no director attached yet. Let’s hope if it does get made, it ends up better than Killers looks…
