He’ll be a vengeful slave-turned-bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained early next year, but if the talks pan out, Jamie Foxx could switch to the other end of the moral spectrum. Variety reports that Foxx is in early discussions to play Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel.
From all accounts, the movie is coalescing quickly now that director Marc Webb is back on board. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are returning as the leads and The Descendants**’ Shailene Woodley is in negotiations to play Mary Jane Watson.
More possible evidence that Foxx is set to play the new character comes from Foxx himself, who tweeted today, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
For those unfamiliar with the character, Electro, AKA Max Dillon, finds himself able to control electricity after getting struck by lightning. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and first showed up to bother the web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man issue 9 back in 1964.
The new Spider-Man film features a script written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, plus a draft by Jeff Pinkner, all working from James Vanderbilt’s original screenplay.
Long since scheduled for release, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit cinemas on May 2, 2014. As mentioned above, Foxx will soon be seen in Tarantino’s latest, which arrives here on January 18. He’s also just finished working on Roland Emmerich’s new action drama White House Down, which explodes onto screens on September 6.
