Though it was originally supposed to be shooting before Creed II, delays with new Michael B. Jordan project Just Mercy mean it has had to wait until the actor finished work on his latest bout of pugilism. It is moving ahead, though, and Jamie Foxx is joining the cast.

Short Term 12 writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton adapted Bryan Stevenson’s memoir Just Mercy: A Story Of Justice And Redemption alongside Andrew Lanham.

The story will follow Stevenson’s work as a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a company dedicated to defending the poor, the wrongly convicted, women and children. One of his earliest cases was Walter McMillian (the role Foxx is likely taking), sentenced to die for a murder he insists he didn’t commit and at the centre of swirling mire of conspiracy and political double-dealing.

Foxx will work on this one before he suits up for the new Spawn movie and we'd be interested to hear the conversation about the potential highs and lows of cinematic superhero life between the two stars on the set of the film...
