After kicking off his career with the likes of Casualty and Midsomer Murders (plus a couple of episodes of the excellent Misfits), Jamie Blackley scored a higher profile role on the big screen in London Boulevard. And now he’s nabbed one of the lead roles in the spin-off to 300.

The film, which still doesn’t have an official title, features a different tale from around the same time as Zack Snyder’s Greek war pic. Formerly known as Battle Of Artemisium, the plot will find Blackley as Calisto, a 16 year-old Greek lad with some serious father issues. In this case, his dad was a heroic warrior and the boy decides he wants to follow in his footsteps by leading a small group of soldiers. Unfortunately for him, he goes up against mad ruler / wannabe god Xerxes.

Noam Murro is directing the movie for Warner Bros., working from Kurt Johnstad’s script. Eva Green is circling one of the other main roles and we’d expect to hear more casting news soon.

Blackley most recently finished work on ‘net murder thriller uwantme2killhim? and will also appear in a supporting role in Snow White And The Huntsman, which is out on June 1.
