After years of teases, promises, dashed hopes, rumours and speculation, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller really are rolling the cameras on Sin City 2. The duo began shooting the sequel yesterday, and have added one veteran and one newcomer to the violent graphic novel world as Jaime King is back and Jamie Chung has stepped aboard.

You might recall that King played beautiful prostitute Goldie, who you might also recall, er, died in the original. Well, no matter: her twin sister Wendy arrives in town and so King will be back without having to slather on the zombie make-up or play a ghost.

Chung, meanwhile, is taking over the role of Miho, originally played by Devon Aoki in the first film.

The pair joins returning Sinners Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, and Rosario Dawson in a tale that blends some established City plotlines including A Dame To Kill For (which explains why Marv is back, since the events take place before the first film) with new stories.

There are also changes afoot for Dwight, who in one of the stories undergoes facial surgery. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Clive Owen will play him for some of the running time and someone else may then take over. But given Sin City’s hyper-graphic style, there’s always a chance they’ll digitally tinker with him so he can do both. He’ll be busy looking for a dangerous woman called Ava, a role that had been earmarked for Angelina Jolie but which is now open.

Sin City’s sequel is aiming for an October 2013 release in the States, but there’s no word on a UK date yet.
