It should come as a surprise to no one that Peter Jackson scooped the top award at the Directors Guild of America on Saturday night for The Return of the King. Jackson beat Peter Weir, Sofia Coppola, Clint Eastwood and Gary Ross to nab the prize. The hobbit-like helmer was on hand to accept the award, and made a short but sweet acceptance speech in which he emphasised the team aspect of the work. "I'm so proud to have spent this time working on a film that, thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien's book, promotes the values of courage, friendship and faith." "What really matters most tonight is that it's not really about me," he said afterwards. "The director is the person whose name gets written about the most, but for me, I just think of the whole experience as an incredible team effort." This further shortens the odds on Jackson walking away with the Best Director Oscar. The DGA and Academy have picked the same winner in 49 of the last 55 years, and even though two of the splits have been in the last three years, the DGA is still considered the best indicator of Oscar
