Becoming a parent can be exciting and challenging in the best of circumstances. But what if you're simply not ready to have the child? That's part of the dilemma that Jack O'Connell and Lily Collins will explore in The Cradle.

Director Hope Dickson Leach co-wrote the script with original novelist Patrick Somerville, who penned the 2009 novel. O'Connell and Collins are a couple called Matt and Marissa Bishop, who discover that they are unexpectedly expecting. Matt is dispatched on a mission to track down the cradle that Marissa slept in as a child, and his quest will see him exploring the life of her impetuous, unpredictable mother Caroline.

Marissa has no intention of reuniting with the woman who abandoned her, but what is expected to be an easy errand turns into a journey of discovery – not all of it pleasant.

Dickson Leach should be rolling the cameras this summer, with the film's rights up for grabs at Cannes. O'Connell has Trial By Fire and Against All Enemies on the way, while Collins worked on Tolkien and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile.
