No J Jonah Jameson In Spider-Man?

Marc Webb and his team have been making the new **Spider-Man **movie for a while now and while the end of last year saw a raft of casting announcements for many of the major roles, one big hole was still left unplugged: that of spluttering, sarcastic Daily Bugle editor J Jonah Jameson. But now, according to a new report, there’s a reason no one has snagged the part: it doesn’t appear in the film at all.

While IGN has it from reliable sources that the character isn’t cropping up to shout at Andrew Garfield’s hero, there’s been no official confirmation (or denial) yet, so we’re treating this one strictly as a rumour for now.

It’ll be intriguing to see how they plan to handle the Bugle as the newspaper definitely exists in the new take on the **Spider-Man **universe, with set pictures of a van bearing the paper’s name already cropping up online.

And though we’re sorry to hear that one of the more iconic elements of Peter Parker’s life might – stress might – not turn up, the pressure on whoever took the role to compete with JK Simmons’ excellent version would be high.

So for now, it looks like you’ll have to make do with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans’ Dr Curt Connors (AKA The Lizard), Martin Sheen’s Ben Parker, Sally Field’s Aunt May and the idea that we get to see Parker’s parents for the first time, played by Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson.

Think it’s all a ruse and they’ll spring a surprise Jameson on the world? We’ll find out for sure on July 3, 2012…
