Jon Favreau has been winning over the Iron Man fans by providing an unusual – for a big studio release – level of access to behind the scenes goings-on. But then it’s Favs – did we expect anything less?

Now comes word that Iron Man will follow in the suited footsteps of Marvel brethren X-Men and Spider-Man by grabbing an early May release date. May 2, 2008, in fact. Which means Favreau really needs to get cooking – he’s got just under two years left! We have a sneaking suspicion he’ll make it, even if it ends up just starring him and Vince Vaughn in Halloween costumes.

The movie will be released by Paramount and Marvel, and funded by Marvel’s new $525 million fund. (Obviously that won't all go to Iron Man’s budget. It would pay for some cool Halloween costumes, though.)
