Irish actor **Tony Doyle **died earlier today at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Doyle, best known for his role as Brian Quigley in the TV series Ballykissangel, was in his fifties. Due to start filming a new detective series for the BBC later this year, Doyle is survived by his wife Sally and his six children. Speaking to BBC news, BBC Northern Ireland's head of drama Robert Cooper said, "Tony Doyle's professionalism and warmth of character was the driving force behind some of BBC Northern Ireland's greatest successes. To say that he will be sorely missed is to seriously understate our sense of loss." Though principally a television actor, Doyle made the occasional foray in film, notably in Paddy Breathnach's I Went Down and in last year's A Love Divided, directed by Sydney McCartney.
