John Crowley's Irish slice-o-life drama, Intermission, looks set to have a very good night at the first Irish Film and Television Awards in November. The film has been nominated in no less than eleven separate categories including Best Director, Best Irish Film and two each for both Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Also basking in the golden glow of critical recognition will be Colin Farrell, nominated for Best Supporting Actor on the film and (inexplicably) both as Best Actor and Best Irish actor for his role in S.W.A.T.. Robert Quinn's Dead Bodies and Ian Fitzgibbon's Spin The Bottle emerged as the main competitors for Intermission's title both with eight nominations and followed by Aisling Walsh's Song For a Raggy Boy with four nods. Empire Online will be in Dublin bringing you red carpet coverage of the Irish Film and Television Awards when they kick off on Saturday 1 November. No one can accuse the Irish of not knowing how to throw a disgraceful piss-up and, with Farrell likely to be in top form, we reckon it's going to be a blast, so be sure to check back for a full report.
