Paul Anderson brings Alien vs Predator to life

Paul Anderson dropped the word last week while in town promoting Resident Evil, but official confirmation has now come through that the long delayed Alien vs Predator project is finally on the move with Anderson nominated to make it all happen. Mooted for years, since Dark Horse comics first printed their comic series, Alien vs Predator had been thought lost in permanent limbo. But, with interest in the premise heightened by two recent computer games, Paul Anderson has been commissioned to write and direct the project for 20th Century Fox. Taking two of science fiction's coolest extra terrestrials, the film will take a loose adaptation of the latest game, Alien vs Predator 2, where a military base on a distant colony engages in scientific experiments on the two species. In a move that you won't be surprised to hear goes completely pear-shaped, the scientists begin hatching aliens in a bid to make the planet inviting to the Predators' hunter instincts. Given the fact that the computer game was enough to have most people running from the room and the massive appeal of both its progenitors, this one has the potential to be phenomenal. But, as with all such experimental endeavours, it's equally likely we'll end up with a turkey of planetary proportions.
