Idina Menzel has been a conflicted witch for Broadway's Wicked and some might think she was on the dark side for being partly responsible for lodging Frozen's "Let It Go" in our collective brain nooks. But she will really channel her bad self for Sony's new musical take on Cinderella.

Based on an idea from James Corden, this latest spin on the fairytale has Kay Canon writing and directing what is currently called Rebel/Dreamer: A New Type Of Cinderella, with Camila Cabrillo taking the lead.

Most recently, Pose's Billy Porter started talks to play the Fabulous Godfather, and if she makes a deal, Menzel would be Evelyn, the stepmother who makes the title character's life hell.

Canon is lining up a London-based shoot due to start next February and a release date pencilled in for a year after that. As for Menzel, she'll next be heard in Frozen II, due on 22 November. Earworm alert!
