It’s clearly a week of reversing the roles in Hollywood. John Travolta’s close to starring in a remake of Dallas, and now Ice Cube has signed on to make a film based on the show that launched Travolta’s career.

Welcome Back, Kotter will star Cube as a teacher who returns to his tough, inner-city old school and finds a pack of troublemakers who are just as bored of the education system as he used to be. It ran in the US from 1975-1979, and starred Gabe Kaplan, who now controls the rights to the show. The sitcom ignited the career of a young Travolta, who played a rabble-rousing student.

Dimension will make the film, with The Hot Chick’s Tom Brady writing and directing.
