You didn’t exactly need to be psychic to figure that, since I****ce Ace: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs became a huge worldwide hit, the animated franchise would belch out yet another entry. It was just a matter of when.

Yes, despite seemingly diminishing quality returns, the continued success of the Ice Age films means that Fox and Blue Sky are already cracking on with a fourth go-around, currently sub-titled Continental Drift. And yes, the franchise's geological and natural history does seem to be getting worse if there's going to be significant continental drift during / following the ice age of 10,000 years ago.

There’s nothing more about the film in Variety’s report, save for the fact that it’ll be in 3D. Oh, and that it’ll show up in summer 2012. That’s going to be a busy year.

We’d guess the likes of Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Queen Latifah will all return, and that Scrat will once more be in pursuit of that ever-elusive nut.
