Ian McKellen has worked with director Bill Condon before – most notably on Gods And Monsters, which won an Oscar and saw the actor nominated – and they're back together again for The Good Liar, which teams McKellen with fellow thespian icon Helen Mirren. Check out the first trailer for the film.

Jeffrey Hatcher (who collaborated with both the director and his star on Mr. Holmes) wrote the script here, adapting Nicholas Searle's novel. The story finds career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen), who can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life...

The likes of Russell Tovey and Jim Carter help fill out the cast, and The Good Liar will be in UK cinemas later this year.
