Currently calling the shots on the set of Thor: Ragnarok (watch the behind-the-scenes Comic-Con footage here), Taika Waititi has another indie gem-in-waiting to follow his previous three rounds in the director's chair (Boy, Eagle Vs Shark and What We Do In The Shadows).

Based on Barry Crump’s book Wild Pork And Watercress, New Zealand box office smash Hunt For The Wilderpeople (it’s the country’s all-time highest-grosser) follows juvenile delinquent Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) as he enters the next in a long line of foster homes. However, none of his previous pads offered a father figure quite like ‘Uncle’ Hec (Sam Neill).

After a difficult start – as seen in the above clip – the unlikely pair become accidentally caught up in a manhunt, pursued by the police and Child Services. What follows is a film that will “make you honk like a goose on nitrous oxide” (according to our 5* review), with an incredible breakthrough performance from the young Dennison.

Empire are also offering you the chance to see New Zealand’s biggest export since that one with the hobbits at next month’s Empire Live. You’d be a fool to miss it.

Hunt For The Wilderpeople is released in UK cinemas on 16 September.
