In development for a few years now at DreamWorks Animation, Australia-set animal musical comedy Larrikins has at last announced its thesp-stuffed cast. Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Rose Byrne and Ben Mendelsohn are now among those confirmed to be lending their talents.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of people attached to this one. Margot Robbie was hired a short while ago and the cast will be filled out by Jacki Weaver, Josh Lawson, Damon Herriman and Ewen Leslie.

Larrikins, which takes its name from an Aussie term for a mischievous or rebellious young person, follows a desert-dwelling marsupial known as a bilby, who has spent the majority of his life literally living under a rock. But then his parents oder him to get out and make something of his life, so he goes on a road trip with a band in the Outback.

Musical genius Tim Minchin has been steering this one through its process so far, working from a script by Harry Cripps. Deadline's report on the new casting announcement also lists DreamWorks veteran and Puss In Boots director Chris Miller as working on the film.
