When you think of director Eli Roth and horror, you normally expect something gruesome. He's switching gears for something a little more family friendly, rounding up Jack Black and Cate Blanchett for an adaptation of The House With A Clock In Its Walls. The first trailer for the film is now online.

Promising more of an Amblin feel than, say, Hostel, Roth's latest is based on the children's book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey.

The story finds 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) going to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious ticktocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead... Tch. Kids today, with their Pokemon Go and their necromancy.

With a script from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, the film also features Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp and Renée Elise Goldsberry. The House With A Clock In Its Walls will arrive in UK cinemas on 28 September.
