Hollywood Gets Foggy

A remake of The Fog?

Ah, Autumn, season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Or, in the case of one small fishing village in Northern California, season of pea-soupers and the vengeful ghosts of dead sailors. John Carpenter's classic horror The Fog, starring the ever-popular scream-queen combo of Jamie Lee Curtis and the late, great Janet Leigh was a success on release, giving audiences a severe case of the willies about any low-lying cloud. It will therefore surprise none of you to know that a remake is currently planned. Revolution Studios has acquired the rights and hired writer Cooper Layne to tackle the script. Layne previously wrote disaster movie The Core, so he should be familiar with things going bump in the night, although he will have to restrain a tendency to alter the Earth's magnetic field or rely on radio broadcasts passing through thousands of miles of solid rock. The good news for fans of the original is that both Carpenter and co-writer Debra Hill are onboard as producers of this film, which with any luck will ensure that we don't stray too far from the qualities that made the original so effective.
