The new year has begun, and if you’re a horror-fiend then you’ll be on high alert for fresh spooky gems set to rattle your bones in the coming months. Enter The Hole In The Ground, an eerie-looking tale of maternal panic, unsettling neighbours, and a giant, crumbling sinkhole, all set against the mysterious natural landscapes of rural Ireland. We’ve got an exclusive first look at the trailer – give it a watch here:

There’s some brilliantly eerie imagery here – particularly the unsettling framing of the titular hole – with echoes of The Babadook and The Hallow sure to put this on the radar of horror fans. Here’s the official synopsis: “Trying to escape her broken past, Sarah O’Neill (Seána Kerslake) is building a new life on the fringes of a backwood rural town with her young son Chris (James Quinn Markey). A terrifying encounter with a mysterious neighbour shatters her fragile security, throwing Sarah into a spiralling nightmare of paranoia and mistrust, as she tries to uncover if the disturbing changes in her little boy are connected to an ominous sinkhole buried deep in the forest that borders their home.”

Find yourself drawn towards The Hole In The Ground when it sinks into UK and Irish cinemas on 1 March.
