A certain space opera prequel, due in May of next year, is likely to close the book on one series of cinematic wars. Time then, for another; so step up Dustin Hoffman, who has just signed on for Car Wars, opposite Punk't and Without A Paddle star Dax Shepard. And the story? Well, it is a period of commercial war. About five minutes ago in a galaxy just around the corner, a snooty BMW dealer (Hoffman) was king of all he surveyed. However, when a rival dealer (Shepard) opens a Hollywood Classic Cars shop right across the street, all his business walks away. And to add insult to injury, the new kid on the block tries to befriend his rival, oblivious to the fact that he hates him. We're sure there are some Wookiees involved somewhere, but we're not sure how. Presumably they're the customers. It' the latest in a series of comedies for Hoffman, after I Heart Huckabee's and the upcoming Meet the Fockers. Shepard may currently be an unknown quality, unless you are a devotee of celebrity prank shows, but he looks set to carve out a niche for himself in comedy and slapstick. As well as Without A Paddle, he will also be appearing in Zathura, the not-really-a-sequel-honest to Jumanji. It remains to be seen, of course, if it will do as well as the films with which its title rhymes, but let's hope that the two leads spark(plug) off each other well enough to overcome the public's aversion to anything involving car salesmen.
