Hereditary And You Were Never Really Here Among The Indie Spirit Award Nominees

Hereditary

Most notable for honouring smaller movies that sometimes slip through the cracks at awards time, particularly when it comes to Oscars, the Independent Spirit Awards have announced their nominations. And it's a good year for films including Hereditary, First Reformed and Eighth Grade.

We The Animals topped the nomination count with five, with movies such as You Were Never Really Here, and the aforementioned First Reformed snapping at its heels with four apiece. But we're also pleased to see Mandy sneak in with a cheeky cinematography and interested to find out whether Moonlight director Barry Jenkins can repeat the success with his latest, If Beale Street Could Talk.

The ceremony for next year's awards is on the schedule for 23 February 23, in the traditional pre-Oscars slot. The main winners are below, and you can find the full list at the Film Independent site.
