Looks like someone almost as used to high-flying action moments as Tom Cruise will be joining him for the next Mission: Impossible movie. Henry Cavill has signed on to the film.

The news actually broke via writer/director Christopher McQuarrie's Instagram account (you can find a grab of the post lower down the page), in which McQuarrie, ostensibly sharing a picture of himself presumably scouting locations for the film, used the comments to start an exchange with Cavill about joining up.

And yes, while we know there will have been negotiations and deals etc, etc, it's nice to see a director having some fun with the process. Variety did a little digging and discovered that Cavill will likely play someone who works with Cruise's boss in the organisation, though whether that's still Alec Baldwin after Rogue Nation remains to be seen.

Cruise will be once again joined by Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and likely Jeremy Renner, with The Crown's Vanessa Kirby as another new recruit. McQuarrie will be calling the shots again this year with filming set for Paris, among other locations.

Cavill has Sand Castle due on Netflix on 21 April and will – spoiler alert for anyone who thought he might actually be gone – return as Superman in Justice League, due 17 November.
