While his Radiohead bandmate Johnny Greenwood has a fair few scores (and an Oscar nomination) under his belt, Thom Yorke's musical contributions are usually limited to the songs featuring on soundtracks. Now, though, he's taken the leap to composer for Luca Guadagnino's new take on horror pic Suspiria and you can hear his theme tune lower down the page.
Suspiria, which has just premiered at the Venice Film Festival where it divided audiences and critics, sees Dakota Johnson as aspiring American dancer Susie Bannion, who gets more than she bargained for when she attends a prestigious German dance school led by Tilda Swinton’s Madame Blanc. In keeping with the style of the original, there are dark plots afoot and plenty of moody horror to be found. We covered the trailer right here.
"As scoring a horror film presented Thom with altogether new challenges and opportunities, Suspiria stands apart from any of his other work," reads the press spiel accompanying the track. "Piano/vocal ballads, Krautrock-esque modular synth work inspired by the film’s Berlin 1977 setting, multilayered vocals, and melodies that convey terror, longing and melancholy combine to create a chaotic yet cohesive musical spell."
Suspiria's full soundtrack will release in the States on 26 October, tied to the film's arrival on screens, and you can find the full track details here. UK audiences will have to wait until 16 November for the movie to hit cinemas.
