Dukes DVD sequel gears up

Hey, look kids! Warner Brothers is making a straight-to-DVD sequel to Dukes Of Hazzard! Is everybody excited? Kids? Stop that crying and attempting to claw your eyes out with twigs.

Yes, we knew it would happen once the first film made some money. But in the world of sequels, the DVD release doesn’t usually bring great results, as both of the people who saw Starship Troopers 2 can attest.

Still, that hasn’t deterred the company from pumping cash into what is easily the biggest example of the genre to date. TV directing veteran Bob Berlinger has been hired to start work on Dukes Of Hazzard: The Beginning, which will chronicle earlier days of the Duke cousins, Uncle Jesse and the shorts-clad Daisy.

Naturally, this means the studio can save cash by not casting the film’s stars – April Scott, usually seen bringing the pretty on the US version of Deal Or No Deal, will play Daisy. Jonathan Bennett and Randy Wayne will be the Dukes, while Chris McDonald, last seen in Rumour Has It, will step into Burt Reynolds’ white suit as Boss Hogg.
