Titus director Julie Taymor (best known for bringing The Lion King to the stage) is currently developing the story of The Flying Dutchman for Fox. 'I have a couple of film projects on the go at the moment,' Taymor told Empire Online at the London premiere of Titus last night (31 August 2000). 'I'm updating The Flying Dutchman - it's in development at the moment... It's going to be an epic tale.' This will be the fifth cinematic outing for the ghostly tale in which a captain is forced to sail his ship for eternity after cursing God during a storm at the Cape of Good Hope. The project is at such an early stage that no cast are on board (forgive the pun). 'The strikes in LA are making everything so difficult,' said Taymor.

Titus opens in the UK this weekend, following a party at the Shakespearean Globe Theatre in London last night attended by Prince Andrew.
