Hathaway Becomes A Passenger

Following the success of The Devil Wears Prada, and ahead of the likely success of Becoming Jane, Anne Hathaway is clearly trying to move away from cute, romantic roles into something a little darker, with the news that her next film will be supernatural thriller Passengers.

The film follows a grief counsellor, played by Hathaway, who treats six plane crash survivors for trauma, only to develop a special connection with one of them. But when the six begin to disappear one by one, she suspects a conspiracy and starts investigating.

It will all be directed by Rodrigo Garcia (son of Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, fact fans!), who previously directed ensemble indie Nine Lives, and several episodes of Six Feet Under. The script’s by Ronnie Christensen, who previously wrote, er, Monster!, a 1999 TV movie, but who’s since gone on to write earthquake drama 10.5 and the upcoming Smoke. Let’s hope that he and Garcia remember to bring the creep for this (we’re guessing) creepy thriller.
