Hansel & Gretel To Be R-Rated?

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters saw its released pushed back significantly, from March of this year to January next, but reports now emerging from test screenings and Collider's sources suggest that when it does arrive, it will be R-rated rather than the more common PG-13 for this sort of film.

This does all tie-in to Gemma Arterton's report that the film would be "as much Pulp Fiction as fairy tale", and producer Adam McKay's comment that it would have, "a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there’s pump-action shotguns." It might also go some way to explaining the delay in release: the studio presumably took a moment to screw their courage to the sticking place before releasing an R-rated fairytale. The last one was, after all, the underperforming Your Highness.

Still, it sounds like this should be something a little different and a little weird, which is a good thing. We'll get to see Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters on March 15 (Beware the Ides of March!) next year. It will be out in the US on January 11, 2013.
