Hamilton The Musical

As we prepare to welcome the Hamilton theatrical film into our lives via its launch this weekend on Disney+, the timing is clearly right for a new documentary that explores the musical's origins and legacy. And that's just what the streaming service has planned, with the documentary set for release on 3 July, the same day as the film itself.

Hamilton In-Depth With Kelley Carter sees the journalist hosting a virtual roundtable with creator/star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail and a gathering of some of the main original cast members, including Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson and Renée Elise Goldsberry. They'll discuss the show's earliest development, the music, the imagery and the show's huge impact on pop culture, among other subjects.

"The story and subject matter that Hamilton covers, and the creative vision of its architects and actors, are more timely than ever," Jimmy Pitaro, president of ESPN and co-chair, Disney Media Networks, said in a statement picked up by EW. "The Undefeated, and Kelley L. Carter, are uniquely positioned to help connect audiences – whether they have never seen the show, or have seen it 10 times – to the creative process, people and significance of Hamilton as it debuts on Disney+."
